I’d aay, without doing the appropriate background research, that it’s best to go with Fair Trade, only because that’s ensuring (at leat I think) fair labor and wage practices, which in turn probably contributes to a more stabel and overall “healthy” society. However, it is quite a dilemna. I think, had this question been posed regarding food – as in something I would eventually eat – I’d have a tougher decision to make. Do I risk harm to myself by chosing Fair Trade and not knowing what pesticides were used? Or, do I support human rights and fair work environments for others? I’d probably still choose Fair Trade. but, it’s a tough call.
